The uncomfortable truth

Budgeting apps don't work. There's a study.

Researchers handed 9,035 people an in-app budget — a single "safe to spend" number for some, full categories for others — and watched what happened to their spending. It didn't drop. Not for the one-number group, not for the category group. A budget you have to remember to follow is just a number you learn to ignore.

Ralphy does the part that actually works. Instead of a number you ignore, it keeps your safety net out of spending reach so it grows as you go, and catches an overdraft before it lands. The app does the work — not your willpower.

How it works

No finance degree required.

From "I hope I'm okay" to "I've got this." In three steps.

1

Connect or add

Link your bank securely through Plaid so accounts and transactions sync automatically — or add them by hand. Your call.

2

See what you can afford

Ralphy reads your income and bills and works out what's safe to spend — no empty grid to fill in, no categories to obsess over.

3

Let Ralphy do the work

Get a daily spend allowance each morning. Alerts before bills overdraft you. Hidden fees surfaced automatically. Your money, looking after itself in the background.

Why Ralphy

Spend with confidence. Save without trying.

One honest number

What's safe to spend — that's it. The number that answers "can I afford this?" before you tap pay. No charts, no guilt, just clarity.

Your number, every morning

Wake up knowing exactly what's yours to spend today. No math. No stress. Just go live your day — Ralphy's already done the thinking.

Private by design

Sign in with Apple, kept in your own private account. Ralphy never sells your data, and you can delete everything in a single tap.

Turns waste into savings

Ralphy digs out the hidden fees, interest, and forgotten subscriptions your bank won't mention — so every dollar you claw back goes toward your safety net instead.

What we believe

Getting ahead isn't a talent. It's a number.

They told you money takes discipline you don't have. Spreadsheets. Willpower. That getting ahead is for people who already are.

We don't buy it.

Knowing what you can afford shouldn't take a finance degree or a fat paycheck. It should take five seconds. So Ralphy hands you the number, watches your back, and stacks your safety net while you live your life. Nearly half of people can't take a $400 hit. We're out to change that — for everyone, not the lucky few.

So we built it in: Ralphy is free for anyone earning under $50k — funded by members who can spare it. Become a member and you cover someone who can't. Pay it forward, or get it free. Either way, Ralphy will never let you overdraft.

The only scoreboard that matters: can you take a $400 hit and keep standing?

Questions

Good to know.

Do I have to connect a bank?
Yes — Ralphy is a forecasting autopilot, so it needs your real transactions to see the road ahead. You connect securely through Plaid (Ralphy never sees your bank password), and you can still log cash purchases by hand once you're set up.
Which banks can I connect?
Most US banks and credit unions, securely through Plaid. You enter your credentials with Plaid directly — Ralphy never sees them.
Is my data safe?
Yes. You sign in with Apple, bank connections are tokenized through Plaid (we never store bank passwords), data is encrypted in transit, and you can delete your account and everything in it anytime. See our Privacy Policy.
How much does it cost?
Ralphy is free for incomes under $50k a year — we estimate your income from your deposits and you confirm it, no proof needed. Above that, it's a $4.99/month (or $39.99/year) membership — and your membership is what keeps Ralphy free for people who can't spare it. Either way, Ralphy will never let you overdraft, whether you pay or not.
When does it launch?
Soon, on iPhone. Drop your email above and we'll let you know the moment it's ready.
